As The Distressed Fleur De Lis commented, "#GeneralFinishes Milk Paint can be used in a sprayer so I thought I would give it a try. It turned a 2 hour paint job into 15 minutes! Definitely a time saver!" And Mamye from The Distress Fleur de Lis is right! So what sprayer should you use?
We all spray Milk Paint at GF - for an entry level spray gun we recommend the Earlex 5500. This guns comes with a 2.0 mm tip for paints and a 1.5 mm tip for clears. Starting cost around $350 for the unit.
Our favorite has been the 3M Accuspray HG18, 16570. This gun is easy to use. It filters the material, the spray head is disposable as is the unit we spray with in the woodshop. 3M tips can be used several times before disposing. Use a 1.8mm /.072 tip/nozzle combination for Milk Paint and 1.3mm/.051 tip/nozzle combination for clears and topcoats.
An update from Peter J Low - he called 3M with some questions and a very knowledgable tech rep said that the new and improved version of this gun is number HG18 which has improvements over the HG09 which had some issues that have been corrected. He said if you buy on line make sure you get the HG18 which curiously has the same Model number as the HG 09 which is 16570 Their tech support line is just terrific 877.666.2277. Thanks Peter, for helping page fans out.
